Restaurant POS software: tables, kitchen and the fiscal receipt
What restaurant and café POS software must do: rooms and tables, orders that route themselves to the kitchen, bill splitting, waiters with a phone and the fiscal receipt.
A restaurant is where a point-of-sale system is tested harder than anywhere else: many tables open at once, orders that change round after round, guests who want to pay separately, and a kitchen that must get the exact order immediately. A POS built for a shop cannot keep that pace.
Here is what to ask of restaurant POS software — and how Kendrix POS solves it in its Restaurant mode.
Rooms and tables, as in the venue
The main screen should be the floor plan: room by room, table by table. At a glance you see which tables are open, what each holds and who is serving it. You lay the tables out yourself, as they are in the venue.
The order grows, the receipt closes at the end
In a restaurant an order does not end with one receipt. Guests order drinks, then food, then coffee. The table’s bill must grow round after round, while the fiscal receipt closes only at the end, with payment. The kitchen gets clear orders and the guest gets one receipt.
The kitchen and the bar get the order by themselves
Each category of items should go to its own printer:
- food to the kitchen printer,
- drinks to the bar,
- pizzas to the oven,
with item notes (“no onions”, “medium rare”) printed with the order. Nobody runs between rooms with paper anymore.
Splitting, merging and moving bills
Three everyday situations the program must handle in a few taps:
| Situation | What the system does |
|---|---|
| Guests at one table pay separately | Splits the items into two or more bills — each with its own receipt |
| Two groups join | Merges the tables into one bill |
| A guest changes table | Moves the order without breaking the receipt |
Happy hour and staff
Special prices by date and time should apply themselves when the item is added — not be worked out in someone’s head. And every operator needs a personal login code: waiters sell, managers administer. At the end of the shift the X or Z report shows totals, payments, VAT by rate and the cash position.
The waiter with a phone
The biggest change in service comes when the waiter no longer walks back to the till. With the Kendrix POS mobile app for iPhone and iPad they:
- open the table from the room and see which tables are taken, with operator and amount;
- add the order in two taps — categories, search, basket;
- close it with payment (cash, card, voucher, split) and issue the fiscal receipt with QR straight from the phone;
- email the receipt if the guest asks.
The app connects to the POS Desktop server in your venue and comes free with the sales package. With Kendrix Admin the owner sees tables and sales in real time.
The fiscal receipt, without thinking about it
None of this counts if the receipt is not fiscal. Kendrix POS is a SEF certified by ATK (SEF no. 812113983327): every receipt is signed, registered with ATK and gets a verification QR code — by itself, in the background. When the internet drops, sales continue and receipts are sent once the connection returns. How fiscalization works →
What you need to start
A Windows PC or till, a receipt printer and the kitchen printers. The installer is downloaded from kendrix.org/setup.zip, the licence is activated by phone and the wizard walks you through tables, items, staff and printers. The waiter’s work stays the same — the system takes over the maths, the printing and the reporting.
