POS software in Kosovo: how to choose the right system
What a point-of-sale system in Kosovo must have: ATK certification as a SEF, offline operation, X and Z reports, barcodes, tables and a mobile app — a checklist.
A point-of-sale system today is not just a till that prints receipts. It records every sale, fiscalizes it with ATK, keeps stock, produces the day’s reports and — when connected to accounting — closes the loop from receipt to balance sheet. Choosing it deserves more than a price comparison.
Below are the points we see every day with businesses in Kosovo deciding on a POS: what is mandatory, what is good to have, and what saves time after installation.
1. ATK certification — the first filter
For a receipt to be a fiscal receipt, the program must be Electronic Fiscal Software (SEF) certified by the Tax Administration of Kosovo. Certification is not a logo on a website — it is a decision by ATK’s commission, with a SEF number and a verification code, published in ATK’s public register.
Before anything else, ask the vendor for two things:
- the SEF number in ATK’s register (for Kendrix POS: 812113983327, version 1.2.4, certified on 11 August 2026);
- the verification code of the decision, which you check on ATK’s site (for Kendrix POS: ATK-2026-58CDEA0E).
If the vendor cannot give you both, the program is not a certified SEF. More on certification →
2. Mode of work: restaurant, market, clinic or quick sale?
A venue with tables, a market with barcodes and a practice with patients do not work the same way. The POS must have the mode that fits your business — not a generic screen that “adapts with a bit of configuration”.
| Business | What the POS needs |
|---|---|
| Restaurant, café, bar | Rooms and tables, orders per table, kitchen and bar routing, bill splitting |
| Market, shop | Barcode scanner, weighed items, live stock, purchases and suppliers |
| Clinic, practice | Patient record, A4 medical report, service price list |
| Café, bakery, kiosk | Item tiles, sale closed in two taps |
Kendrix POS has all four modes in the same program; you pick the mode during installation and can change it later without losing data.
3. Working offline
Internet in a venue drops — and sales cannot wait. Ask specifically: what happens to the receipt when there is no connection? The right answer: the receipt prints marked OFFLINE, waits in a secure queue and is sent to ATK automatically when the connection returns, with no action from you.
4. Payments, discounts and corrections
On an ordinary day you will need:
- combined payments — cash, card, voucher or cheque, even several methods on one receipt;
- discounts by amount or percentage, per item or per bill, reflected correctly in VAT;
- returns and cancellations linked to the original receipt, with a reason, reported to ATK automatically.
If any of these requires a “manual procedure”, you will pay for it in time every day.
5. Daily reports and staff
The X and Z reports must come out in one click and contain totals, payments, VAT by rate (0%, 8%, 18%) and the cash position. Every operator needs a personal login code and an access level — waiters sell, managers administer. That way you know who did what, with no notebooks.
6. The mobile app
For restaurants, the waiter taking the order at the table and closing it with payment without walking back to the till is the most visible change. Kendrix POS comes with a mobile app for iPhone and iPad, free with the sales package, that issues full fiscal receipts with QR straight from the phone.
7. Installation and support
Ask how long it takes from purchase to the first sale, and who answers the phone after launch. With Kendrix POS the installer is downloaded from kendrix.org/setup.zip, the licence is activated by phone within minutes and the demonstration is free — on site or remote.
The checklist
Before you sign, check that the POS:
- is an ATK-certified SEF, with a SEF number and a verification code;
- has the mode of work for your business;
- keeps selling offline and syncs by itself;
- supports combined payments, discounts, returns and cancellations;
- produces X and Z reports and has staff roles;
- has a mobile app if you work with tables;
- installs within a day and has phone support.
